Every look at an ATM? Ever look at an ATM… on weed? Every think of an ATM… for weed?
The sleek kiosks have a touch screen with an interface that divides products for sale into sections like flower, oils, and edibles. Consumers can browse the product selection and decide on the item(s) they want to purchase. Upon completion of payment (on smartphone via Apple or Samsung pay), a robotic arm then chooses and dispenses the desired products. The entire process takes less than three minutes from start to finish.
The greenbox is the invention of Zack Johnson, company CEO and a former music industry exec from Massachusetts who dreamed up the kiosk while waiting in a particularly long dispensary line. The design period took two years of labour, with lead engineer and company COO Peter Boyle at the helm of research, development and testing.
The greenbox debuted at California dispensary Erba Collective last month, which refers to the kiosk as “Erba Express Checkout” that is “Powered by greenbox Robotics.” The Erba kiosk has accumulated about USD$20,000 within the first 30 days, and Erba is planning to install five more over the coming months.
Johnson says he has received orders for greenboxes from locations like Washington, Nevada, and Tennessee. He is currently developing a complimentary app that allows consumers to learn about new items, opt in to a rewards program or view their purchase history.
The company has also developed a vivid blue box, called the Marinabox, which dispenses exclusively CBD products (greenbox dispenses products with THC). Johnson hopes one day to place Marinaboxes in locations like malls, hotels and travel hubs such as airport terminals.
